Marriage is the union of two souls and one has every right to get married to the partner of their choice. It is one of the most hyped-up religious affairs, mainly in a spiritual country like India. Marriage is considered to be the foundation of a “Family” that further forms a society. The only body that has the authority to regulate the solemnization of marriage is the Government. In the eyes of laws, two adults can marry each other immaterial of caste, religion, and creed. This is why GOI always comes up with different provisions to facilitate free-will marriage and control forceful weddings. One such concept is “Tatkal Marriage Registration” which enables couples to register their marriage within 24 hours. 

What is the Need for Marriage Registration?

Every marriage is needed to be registered to give it legal status. The registration of marriage can be done under different Indian laws such as Hindu Marriage Act, Special Marriage Act, and Muslim Marriage Act. So, to attain validation from the Government of India, every marriage should be registered under any of these laws. The certificate of marriage serves as proof of a legal marriage and can be used as a piece of evidence to avail various government schemes and facilities such as banking, insurance, identity verification, and more. 

The marriage certificate works as legal matters such as divorce, custody of the child, distribution of property, and more. 

Important Note: The Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 and the Special Marriage Act, 1954 are two marriage registration legislation under one of which every marriage should be registered. 

What is Tatkal Marriage or Same Day Marriage Registration?

Tatkal Court Marriage registration in Delhi or Same Day Marriage is a provision to get your marriage registered in case of emergency or when the certificate of marriage is immediately required by the couple. Tatkal Marriage helps you get your marriage certificate within 24 hours if you have already solemnized the religious rituals of marriage and carry a proof of it. 

The fee of Taktal Marriage is quite higher than that of normal registration. You need to pay around INR 10,000 as the same-day marriage fee. But this provision works best for those who are in a hurry and want to speed up the registration process. 

What Documents are for Tatkal Marriage Registration?

  1. Age Proof: Any proof with your age mentioned on it will work. From Aadhar Card to Pan Card, an ID with your Date of Birth, authorized by the Indian government will serve the purpose.
  2. Residence or Address Proof: Address proof of any party (husband or wife) is required. The ID of the person residing in the area of which SDM is approached needs to be presented.
  3. An application for Marriage Registration self-attested by both husband and wife is required.
  4. An affidavit with the place of marriage, date of marriage, and Date of birth of both husband and wife mentioned on it needed to present.
  5. A passport size photograph of both husband and wife is needed.
  6. Invitation card of marriage.
  7. Two witnesses and their ID proof.
  8. Passport size photographs of witnesses.
  9. Marriage photographs presenting the visuals of important ceremonies like Varmala, Pherras, Mang Bharai, Mangal Sutra are needed.
  10. If any or both parties are divorcees, Divorce Decree is required.
  11. If any partner is Widow or Widower, the dead spouse’s Municipal Death Certificate is required.
  12. A duly-filled Form A of marriage Registration.
